Nightjohn
Nightjohn was a guy who taught people to read. One night he wanted some tobacco and this girl Sarny had some. She agreed to give him some only if he taught her how to read. He taught her one word a night and what sound it makes. One night Mammy (the woman who takes care of Sarny and the other children) caught Nightjohn teaching Sarny how to read. Mammy was very upset. She didn't want Nightjohn to teach Sarny how to read because if Nightjohn got caught teaching Sarny how to read, Nightjohn would get killed and so would Sarny for knowing how to read. Their owners believed they don't have the right to know how to read. Sarny asked Mammy if she ever thought about being free and Mammy told her to never think about being free. That could put them in a lot of danger. They would be killed if they ever thought about being free.
"Mascot"
In "Mascot" Malcom X had terrible behavior at his old school. They made him got to a reform school to help change his behavior. Going into the reform school helped change his behavior a great amount. He soon was able to transfer into the local public school. One of his new teachers asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. Malcom X replied by saying he wanted to be a lawyer. The teacher told him he wouldn't be able to be a lawyer and it was unrealistic for him to want to be a lawyer because of his skin color.
Compare and contrast The Great Debaters to Nightjohn and "Mascot":
These stories all relate in some way. They all deal with human rights. In "Mascot" Malcom X and Booke both wanted to be lawyers. They both fought people telling them they couldn't. They both were African American and were told since they were African American they wouldn't be able to be lawyers. In all three of the stories they were treated wrong and told they couldn't do something because of their skin color, when they ended up succeeding and doing what they were told they couldn't. They all had tostand up for what they believed in. They all succeeded in what they wanted and didn't give up.

Blog
I'm really likeing this movie in english. its getting good! usually i would fll asleep in movies in class but this one i have yet to fall asleep in!
Im so happy we have a 2 day week this week!
This weekend was pretty good! Friday i went to the movies with Rachel and some friends. Saturday I went to pick up flowers we sold for softball fundraising. I used to love fundraising but now I hate it. Just recently I had 3 fundraisers at a time, travel softball, chool softball and choir! O didnt even sell that much! Later I went to a pitching/ hitting lesson. I always love them because I love my piutching/hitting instructor, shes honestly the best! I went strait from there to an indoor softball game. I wasnt pitching this game so I kinda just sat there and talked instead of warming up. PRobably not the best thing to do but I was tired. I ended up getting 2 really good hits and played 3rd and 1st (normal positions I play) then played short stop which I never play inless we play indoor. We killed this team. They got so mad and at one point one girl was crying! The others ll looked like someone shot their dog! After the game I went with Rachel to her aunts house for the OSU game. Later that night we went to a birthday party which was a lot of fun! Today we went to church for the first time in a while. It was good to go. When we got home we worked in the yard which was very tiering! I was soo tired after, i took a nap. I then woke up and had to go help a u12 Gahanna travel softball team. It was kind of a pain in my butt! I now give a lot of respect to my coaches because i know how it feels!

This week was such a long week! Softball lifting started this week so I have been sore all week! I don't mind it though, I actually really like lifting! I also have a head ach all week off and on and still have it now. I'm trying to get my homework done so I can just go sleep! That sounds sooo good to me right now! I'm kind of upset we are done with 12 angry men because I actually really liked it! Friday I was sooo happy I didn't have a lot of homework. I went home and had nothing to do so after lifting I worked on party invites. That took about forever. I then showered and just watched tv. That was a nice change in pace. Saturday My mom was very sick so Rachel picked me up for our indoor softball game. We played Pickerington so I thought it would be a close game, turned out we won like 50-0. in an hours amount of time we went in the field twice and were up to bat 3 times. I pitched and threw all my pitches and threw a 2 hitter :) I got up to bat and walked 4 times and was really proud of myself for being very agressive on the bases. I would say I'm a very smart and agressive base runner but saturday I was extra agressive. Rachel and I had lunch then I went home to take care of my mom. My aunt wanted to make dinner for us so I drove my mom out to my aunts and we watched the OSU game and had dinner out there. It was getting late and I was tired and had to drive so we left. Today (Sunday) I woke up at 5:30 to leave for Bowling Green for a softball clinic. That was a lot of fun. I really liked Bowling Green. I slept the whole way home and now I'm here writing this.

these blogs are making me mad! I alwasy forget to do them! Well 12 angry men is a pretty interesting story. I missed the first day of reading but im caught up and i think he's guily!
I saved all my homework for sunday as i normaly do. i had to write a report on the annexation of Hawaii, honestly who cares? All i need to know is its an a state in the U.S. :)
Friday I had my first travel softball meeting. I miss always seeing my team because honestly they are my best friends! I then went to see Rachel's cousin who just moved here from Arazona. I stayed at Rachel's house that night and we got up and went to our first indoor softball game! I was so excited! Well then the team doesnt show up :( We decided to play against eachother since we had enough girls and i played 3rd and pitched :) Later my mom and I went out to West Jeff to go to a party at a friends house and later my uncle and cousin picked me up to go to the West Jeff play off game. They ended up winning 40something -6. ahaha! Today sunday I went hiking in my aunts woods with my little cousin, 2 aunts and mom. It was really fun and pretty back there! Now i'm home doing homework. Over all good weekend:)

Wow this week honestly went by really fast. I have been kicking my but to keep my grades up and getting good grades with all these tests at the end of the quarter. The research project has been pretty easy for me now. After all the research was done and my outline was done, it seemed to be a lot easier, I still have to type the rough draft!
It's kind of hard to believe that October is already over. Thursday I forgot it was trick or treat, but my family ended up going out to West Jeff and I watched my cousin and my friends play there last football game. Then I went to my aunts house because she had a lot of poeple over.
Friday I went home with my best friend Mark Daniels. We are having our birthday party together, so we were going over music and crossing off the list what we didn't want played. We honesly fight like brother and sister, so we had a fight over some music. We eventually got over it. His family took us all out to dinner at the Gahanna Grill. It was a nice change since I haven't been there in a long, long time. We went back to his house and then he made me watch basketball. It was the most boring half hour of my life, I hate basketball!! Sorry Mr. Potter! My brothers baseball coach came to Mark's house and picked me up and took me back to his house because my mom was hanging out there with his wife. We talked for a while then went home.
Saturday I woke up at 8am for a pitching lesson, which didnn't bother me because I love my pitching coach. She is honestly the best! I went home and took a nap an then got ready for my friend Kaitlyn Huddleston's birthday party. We went to a hotel by Polaris and went on a scavenger hunt in Polaris. We then got really dressed up and went to dinner and bowling. We had a lot of fun!
Today is Sunday and we got up and went to the Paint Brawl at the high school and my team was the Average Jills. We got out the first round! Oh well it was still a lot of fun. Well I got to go type my paper! Bye!

This week went by really fast I think. The research paper had a rough start to it. I was very confused and was very unsure what to do. I only have my conclution on my rough draft to do now. It's going really good now. I had my parent teacher confrences Thursday and I realized I need to work a lot harder. Now with school softball coming up, school is really going to be kicking my butt! I actually really can't wait to start lifting for softball, the conditioning can wait though! :)
My weekend has been pretty good! Friday I went over to my friend Kaitlyn's house and we went to the West Jeff vs. Licking Heights game. Before the game Kaitlyn (Huddy) tried to curl my hair and we used a crap ton of hair spray because my hair is naturaly straight and is wayy hard to curl. My hair ended up frizzing out so we had to wash it and dry and and I decided to just go straight. :) We met up with my West Jeff friends and hung out with them in the student section. Their colors are brown and gold and I had Gahanna clothes on so I kind of stood out a lot! I also got to see my sister there. She graduated from Licking Heights last year so she went to see some old friends and I got to see her for the first time in a while.
Saturday I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to go to Wright State University for a softball clinic. It was out side so the morning was freezing!!!! It was actually pretty cool because Crystal Bustos' (USA Olympic Softball Player) hitting instructor was there. He also worked with the Chinese softball Olympic team. He was really good. at the end of the clinic we were split up into 4 teams and played actual games. My team was actually really good for just meeting eachother that day. There were 3 pitchers on our team and I got to pitch an inning and did amazing. Struick a few girls out on my rise, screw and curve ball! We left at 4 and headed for home and I was out the whole way home. Rachel called me and asked to so something, you know the usual weekend. I picked her up and we went to the boys soccer game and watched them kick butt. I stayed at her house that night.
Sunday Rachel and I got up early and went to church with her mom and brother. We went to Max and Ermas after for lunch. We went home and played just dance untill we got tired. We then did what we were told to do and tried to study for history and ended up falling asleep! Fun weekend!

Darn this stupid blog!!! This whole 4 day weekend is throwing me off!!! I forgot to do my responce Friday so yeah I'm a little mad about that and then I just hate these blogs! I forgot about all my homework, well i chose to forget all about my homework this weekend and to save it for today (Sunday).
Thursday i hung with my brother and his 2 friends, yes I know I'm lame. I then spent the whole day frinishing Rachel's birthday present which was a video of us. It turns out the music on the video never worked so she got a slideshow of pictures with out music! I then went to her house for a little bon fire/birthday celebration for Rachel. I got to see my friend from softball who lives in New Albany, I was so excited! I ended up crashing at Rachel's, like I do almost every weekend.
Friday my mom picked me up from Rachel's and took my home. I got ready to go to the pumpkin patch with Mark Daniels and a bunch of people. We had a lot of fun and I got my pumkin that I will probably end up not carving. Ohh well! My grandma picked me up from the pumkin patch and took me to my Aunt Shannon's so I could hang out with my cousin Brandon and then later that night they took us to the West Jeff football game. Honestly I think I have been to more of there football games then Gahanna's. I think I missed 1 of there home football games. I ended up staying at my Aunt Shannon's and Uncle Jason's house and hung out the rest of the night with Brandon and his friend Zach.
Saturday I just chilled at their house with Brandon and Zach. My aunt and uncle were outside doing yard work so we entertained ourselves my having a hude wrestling match. Later my Aunt Shannon took my shopping for my birthday from last year! I always have fun with her so it was a good day! She brought me home and my mom, brother and I went to my mom's friend's house for the OSU game.
Today (Sunday) I woke up at 7 to go to Otterbein for a softball clinic. I just got back a little bit ago and now doing the crap ton of homework I have to do.

We finished the book last week and I guess it was better than I thought it was going to be. I still hate reading though. I'm getting really frusterated with this reasearch project and kinda don't really know what to do. This weekend was really good. Friday I went to the football game and watched Gahanna suck up the field. I really dont understand how they lost 21-20. Then I went to Rachel's house because it was her birthday and I'm just a good friend so I did what she wanted me to do. Saturday I went to homecoming with Rachel and her date and my date. We went to Max and Erma's for dinner and then went to the dance. After we hung out at Rachel's house. I endded up staying at her house. Now I'm at home writing this stupid blog. Yesterday was my little cousins birthday so today we r going to his house for his birthday party. He's 4 now :)

Blog :)
So I'm actually enjoying the book. I never thought Boo would actually come out, I really didnt know what he was going to do and he was just trying to throw us off from the main point of the story.
I'm really excited for this weekend. I'm going to West Jefferson's homecoming football game and their homecoming tomorrow with rachel cox. I'm in a really good mood right now and I dont know why.
So now it's sunday and my weekend was amazing. I got to see my cousins and friends from West Jefferson. We went to dinner at Olive Garden Saturday night and Rachel Cox had a spider in her food, ewwwwww! For the most part the night and weekend was all around very nice. Today was our first choir concert and we did amazing, and sounded amazind! I'm sooooooooooooooooooooo tired right now its hard to keep my eyes open and its still really early. I'm looking forward to our homecoming this weekend and I'm about to go all out in neon tomorrow. I'm really cold and tired of cold weather all ready! Well I'm gonna go read the rest of the book and probably sleep after that. byeeeee (:

So I'm really tired today and I just got done reading the sixteenth chapter and almost fell asleep! Not good! I'm really hoping we dont have a test monday because I really dont do good on quizes, even if I study! I'm really excited for this weekend because im going to West Jeffersons homecoming, then my aunts having a huge party and then Sunday is our first choir concert, I have a feeling this week is going to go by so slow! For some reason I really dont want to go to school tomorrow, and I think its because I have an intro to theater test I havent studied for tomorrow, not smart :/ It's starting to get really cold out and I dont like it! I miss the summer!!! I feel like im rambling, but I dont really know what to say! My weekend has been pretty good! I went shopping Friday with my best friend Rachel and then Saturday I went to the JV football game and then hung out with my other best friend Mark Daniels. Today I went looking for homecoming dresses and did homework. Fun day! Tomorrow I'm sopossed to take my 2nd driving class and I don't want to go because I find them extreamly boring! Blog
When I was about eight my Aunt Brooke go the book To Kill A Mockingbird and read it to my brother and I when ever we were with her. We never got totally through the book but we got pretty far. To be honest I dont remeber a single thing that happened in the book. I have to admit the first chapter was boring like Mr. Potter said it would. Im getting into the book a little bit. It is super hard for me to get into a book and actually sit down and enjoy reading but this ones getting there. I thought I would do terrible on the quiz we had over the book, but i did pretty well, except for the vocab I forgot about. Im really enjoying this class and it would probably be one of my favorites!

Essay! :(
Honestly i really don't like writing this essay! It was too easy and i felt like it was pointless! I kinda like the poetry stuff. I hate reading so the short poems are actually really nice. I like when the class talks about the poem and what it means to them because it really helps me understand the meaning behind the poem. I actually reallyu like this class and it's one of my favorites!

I liked splitting up in groups today and reading the poems together. In my group we talked about what each poem ment to us then answered the questions. I liked reading the poems today because they were about courage and courage is huge! I think having courage is a huge personality trait to have and shows a lot in a person.

I usually hate reading short stories or any stories at all. Today we read the poem "The Road Not Taken." I actually really enjoed this poem! I like reading short poems that get me thinking and actually mean something. What i took out of the poem was that there are different roads you can take and if you take the road less traveled (making the right decision) it could make all the difference in the world!
